KENTLER INTERNATIONAL DRAWING SPACE is a non-profit arts organization located in Red Hook, Brooklyn presenting exhibitions of drawings and work on paper. Founded in 1990 by artists, the gallery is dedicated to bringing important and timely contemporary art to the public by emerging and under-recognized artists as part of the cultural fabric of a community. The gallery presents work by New York based artists, as well as artists nationally and internationally, encouraging artists to explore, research and expand the definitions of art using drawings and work on paper.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES will be highly motivated individuals with an interest in museum studies, non-profit arts organizations or arts administration. He/she must be professional, detail-oriented, have strong written and verbal communication skills and able to multi-task. Knowledge of Mac platform and Microsoft Office Suite is required. (Experience with of FileMaker Pro and Photoshop and Dreamweaver is helpful. Will train.)

College seniors, graduate students or recent graduates who can commit to a semester-long or summer internship may apply. A minimum of 8–15 hours per week is preferred. Class credit may be available for some academic programs. Individuals are also encouraged to apply. The gallery is open to the public Thursday-Sunday, 12:00–5:00 p.m. plus some evenings (closed January and August).

GALLERY INTERNS will gain experience in all aspects of Art Administration and develop essential skills in the operations of a non-profit art gallery.

Responsibilities include:
•    Working closely with the director in running an efficient gallery;
•    Organizing incoming exhibition proposals, coordinating review process and preparing for exhibitions;
•    Registering Benefit artworks and processing ticket sales;
•    Assist with opening receptions, artist talks, special events and fundraisers;
•    Working with artists and curators, handling artwork, engaging the public with the exhibitions;
•    Assist with developing press releases and press contacts;
•    Receiving visitors, answering phones, preparing correspondence;
•    Maintaining mailing lists and coordinating mailings;
Opportunity for additional responsibilities:
•    Assisting with website content management;
•    Assist with researching grants, developing timelines and writing proposals;
•    Assist with data entry and management for a collection of drawings and works on paper by more than 130 artists held in The Kentler Flatfiles.
