Community Art Project: Red Hook Site Maps

Brooklyn Public Library - Red Hook
May 21 & 22, 2003, 3:30pm

The Red Hook Branch of Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) partners with Kentler International Drawing Space to host two workshops entitled “Community Art Project: Red Hook Site Maps.” These workshops, one for children from PS 15 and one for adults and young adults, will be directed by artist/sculptor Jane Ingram Allen.  Participants collected materials from the neighborhood and create maps of Red Hook.  These unique maps will then be joined to form a suspended installation and exhibited at Kentler gallery alongside Allen’s own work from May 24 through June 30.

Jane Ingram Allen is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Masters degree in art education.  She has been an artist in residence at several centers including the Sacatar Foundation in Itaparica, Brazil; the Paper Art Village Project in Mino City, Japan; and the Napal Crafts Collection in Kathmandu, India.  She has had appointments here in the United States including residencies at the Connemara Conservancy in Plano, Texas, and the Contemporary Artists Center in Massachusetts.
