At the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Brooklyn-based artist Robert Aitchison began to draw and paint portraits of close friends. They evolved from rapid sketches made while connecting with them on video internet platforms.

The volatile circumstance of quarantining provoked Aitchison to explore the themes of yearning and intimacy; for connection and community. These works express the shifting movement and fractured viewpoints on experiences in virtual spaces.

The portraits move beyond resemblance to express the inner emotional and psychological landscapes of the people portrayed.
